My house burnt down

dondepresso:

So, no joke: My Portland house burnt down on Saturday morning (photo). I was staying at a friend’s house that night, so I didn’t get hurt, but all my belongings were destroyed, including the computer and tablet I was using to make Don Depresso comics (fortunately, there are still 17 left in the Tumblr queue, but after that I don’t know when I’ll be able to resume making comics).

I hate asking for shit like this, but if any of you readers feel like donating to help me replace my stuff and, y’know, rebuild my life, you can PayPal money to toiletresin@gmail.com. Even small amounts will help.

Thanks for reading,
Ruji

Depth Of Field Magazine brings together renowned comic creators and Hip-Hop legends to discuss ties between the forms, upcoming projects, and shared inspirations
On Saturday, October 13th, from 5:15-6:15pm, Depth Of Field Magazine is proud to present Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining, a panel discussion at the East Coast’s largest entertainment gathering.  Comic books and Hip-Hop both grew from modest origins in New York City to achieve global impact, and in the process, they have crossed over in a variety of ways – this panel will showcase new and upcoming projects from comic creators and Hip-Hop legends, shed light on the ways Hip-Hop and comics have influenced and inspired each other, and give perspective on the common history of two cultures through discussion with musical legends, artistic innovators, and cutting-edge comic creators.
Patrick Reed (editor of Depth Of Field Magazine) will moderate, and the panelists comprise many of the most influential creators in their respective fields, including:
-Eric Orr (graffiti and fine artist, graphic designer, creator of “Rappin’ Max Robot”, the first rap comic book)
-Ron Wilson (artist of Marvel’s The Thing and Wolfpack, creator of the upcoming Battle Rappers series)
-Adam “Illus” Wallenta (co-creator of the Public Enemy comic book, acclaimed MC, artist of numerous album covers)
-Ronald Wimberly (creator of Vertigo’s new ‘Prince Of Cats’ graphic novel, artist of MF Grimm’s ‘Life Sentences’ graphic novel)
-Kagan McLeod (professional illustrator, writer/artist of Top Shelf’s ‘Infinite Kung Fu’ graphic novel)
-Johnny “Juice” Rosado (DJ and producer for Public Enemy, Leaders Of The New School, Son Of Bazerk, and other acts)
-Pete Rock (pioneering producer and DJ, half of legendary Hip-Hop duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
-Jean Grae (celebrated MC and producer)
-Darryl DMC McDaniels (Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, creator of the upcoming DMC comic and graphic novel, member of RUN-DMC)
The panel runs one hour, and will take place in room 1A06.  Preceding the panel, there will be two hours of signings with the speakers – these signings will take place from 2-4pm at table 6 in NYCC’s autographing area.

I hope someone records this.

I have a dream of creating my own comic book. Printing a few copies for me and my friends. I have a fully written script, but a need an artist.

I have a limited budget. I need to find someone who would be mainly doing it for fun or as an exercise, as I could pay much.

If you think you have it in you, or know of anyone who might, please message me!

It’s Talk Like A Pirate Day!

dcwomenkickingass:

And I can’t think of a better day for you to check out Lady Sabre the webcomic about a female Pirate by Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett. It publishes once a week (mostly) and I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t read it.

Or you could pick up Conan the Barbarian by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan and meet Belit:

And I think it is fair to remind people that at one time in the 90s Wonder Woman had an arc devoted to her battling Space Pirates.

No, really.

multiversitycomics:

With 2012 being a big year for both Image and Multiversity, we thought that the best way to celebrate all the exciting things that’ve happened so far and everything that’s yet to come by throwing a bash for all of our friends. Not only that, but with the internet being home to passionate discussions recently towards the well-being of our favorite veteran creators, we thought it was important to use this event as a way to raise funds for a charity whose cause we feel passionate for. To that end, we at Multiversity alongside Image Comics will be hosting an event that we like to call The Big Party for this year’s NYCC, all to the benefit of the Hero Initiative, a charity that raises money to help support creators in need and gives to those who have helped foster, develop and pioneer the medium we all love so much.
Hosted by the Houndstooth Pub located on 8th Ave between 36th and 37th (a short 3-block walk from the Javits Center), the party will run from 8 PM to 12 AM in the Lower Level of the pub with a $10 donation to the Hero Initiative to get in. It’s a 21+ event, and will assuredly be a fun place for friends, fans and creators to meet, share a drink and mingle. The Big Party will also feature quite a few special Image guests, such as Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples (SAGA), Justin Jordan and Tradd Moore (THE LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE), and Sina Grace, whose new graphic novel NOT MY BAG will be debuting at NYCC! Almost all of Multiversity will be in attendance as well, for those who want to talk beards and cats, and who knows — stick around and a few unexpected additional guests might pop-in as well.
To make this whole event even sweeter, we’re pleased to announce the attendance of Zac Wolf Photography’s THE DANGER BOOTH, an on-site photo booth that will allow attendants to pose for party pictures to their hearts delight. With easy access and props for extra fun, the Danger Booth will be available throughout the event and all photos taken will be uploaded to www.TheDangerBooth.com, where you’ll be able to buy prints with your smiling faces on them and download your favorite pictures from the evening.
We’re also planning a few additional things, so expect another announcement or two in the coming weeks.
So if you’d like to have a drink, groove to some music, share a chat and donate money to a great cause, please join us on Friday, October 12th for THE BIG PARTY. RSVP on Facebook if you fancy and we look forward to seeing you there!

Hello everybody!

scarecrowlaughingalonewithsalad:

So I’ve been working on this comic book for a ridiculous amount of time with one of my friends. (I’m writing it and making storyboards, and she’s making it a reality)

I’m really proud of it, but there’s a hitch.

It seems she’s gotten cold feet about the project.

I’m crushed. This has been my baby for nearly a year.

This is really crushing my self-esteem as a freelance comic book writer.

So, I’m asking for help.

If you are an artist who specializes in comic books, or you know one, PLEASE contact me immediately! (and even if you don’t, please signal boost if possible!)

I can be reached by tumblr (drop a message in my ask), e-mail, & phone (ask and I shall give them to you).

Thank you all SO much!

EDIT: Shoot! Forgot to say, if you want to know what it’s about:

It’s currently titled in my documents folder as “SOMINEM” (Latin for Hallucination/Fever Dream), as it’s about someone who’s got trouble… grasping onto reality, you could say. I don’t want to give too much away! If you want to know more, though, feel free to message me with questions!

Comic Book Artist Wanted!

woodenigloosman:

I’ve decided to try my hand at writing a comic book series.

I’ve got most of the idea done, and have started writing, but I need an artist.

Disclaimers:

1)      This is not a paid job. I’m not going to pay you to do this in any fashion. If you send me and ask, it should be because you want to.

a.       However, if we do get money for the comic later on, you will get half of the money.

2)      I am a very open and honest person. I do expect you to be open with me as well and share your ideas. I will share my opinions with you about the story and the art and ideas that we come up with. If negative, they will never be nasty or condescending, but it will be constructive criticism. Please don’t send me anything if you can’t handle that well.

3)      I want your creativity. I’m your partner here, not your boss. I’m not going to tell you specifically what to do unless there is a specific purpose to doing it. I’ll lay out roughly what needs to happen in the book script and let you have at making it come to life. Feel free to have fun with the panels, and experiment with the art.

4)      Our names are going on this. I would much rather say or hear “hey, I’m a bit busy right now, can we push off the publishing a little” then produce anything half-assed. I’m not a total perfectionist, but I want to tell a good story and produce good comics.

Still interested? Fantastic! Send me an ask :)

Native? Dig Comics? You a Native Artist/Writer? Join my shit.

daledeforest:

In an effort to help curb pop-culture’s malicious attempt at cultural appropriation, I’m trying to bring together a group of people (namely people of talent) to showcase what they’re good at.

ART.

Art is many things, FYI… not just purdy drawrins’ of cups, fruit n’ shit.  Art is anything that doesn’t involve survival or reproduction (as Scott McCloud so elegantly stated)

So if you’re an artist/writer/photographer/activist/etc… hop over to DEVIANT ART and hit this group up.  Showcase your stuff, help other potential greats and do one more thing that helps put a DENT in what pop-culture truly thinks of us.
